Acer rubrum, commonly known as the red maple, is a medium to large deciduous tree native to eastern and central North America. It is named for its striking red features: red buds in winter, red flowers in early spring, red leaf stems, and brilliant red or orange fall foliage. The leaves are typically 3–5 lobed and have a serrated margin. Red maples grow quickly and can reach heights of 12–21 metres. They are adaptable to a wide range of soil types and are often used as shade or ornamental trees in landscapes and urban areas.
